Start with ChatGPT for a broad mix of everyday tasks; try Claude when your main job is shaping a long document or refining a careful draft. Neither is a substitute for checking facts.
ChatGPT
A versatile everyday starting point
Everyday drafts, explanations and working through a spreadsheet.
Canadian customer-content storage is available to eligible Enterprise/Edu customers. Not a consumer-plan guarantee; processing, metadata and connected services require separate checks.
Your day moves between an email, a spreadsheet question and an explanation for a customer. One general assistant can reduce switching between tools. Try it with a non-sensitive sample of your real work before paying. Features and usage limits depend on the current plan.
Choose Claude when…
You spend more time reading, organising or rewriting substantial text. Our editorial preference is Claude for careful long-form drafting: give it your source material, audience and constraints, then ask it to show what information is missing. This is a workflow recommendation, not a benchmark win.
Where neither should decide for you
Both can produce plausible mistakes. Verify quotations, dates, totals and cited sources yourself. Keep customer records, passwords, health details and confidential contracts out of a consumer account unless your organisation has approved the specific product, plan and configuration.
For Canadian teams
A French interface, French output and French-speaking human support are different features. CAD checkout is also different from a CAD estimate. Review the dated Canadian details below, particularly the eligible-plan restriction on ChatGPT data residency; a consumer account does not inherit an enterprise commitment.
A fair way to choose
Give both tools the same anonymised email or document and the same instructions.
Compare factual accuracy, tone and the amount of editing you still need.
Check current plan limits and billing terms, then keep the one that fits your routine.
Common questions
Is Claude better than ChatGPT for writing?
We favour Claude for longer, carefully structured drafts and ChatGPT for varied everyday work. This is editorial guidance: compare both on your own non-sensitive sample.
Do I need to pay for both?
Not to get started. Use available free access within its limits, test one repeatable job and avoid a second subscription unless it solves a different need.
